Sensory Stories tell a story using words and sensory stimuli which can be highly motivating and engaging for young learners.  This workshop will give you the tools and strategies create your own sensory stories.

Whilst originally designed for children with SEN, specifically PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities), Sensory Stories can be utilised in Early Years to encourage engagement with stories and text. Sensory stories can support turn taking and participation. Sensory stimulation supports memory and so sensory stories can help children to re-tell stories whilst the resources offer a series of prompts to remind the story teller of the sequence of the story.  Plus they are really fun!

In this session we will cover:

*Experience a Sensory Story

*Key elements of sensory stories including structure and content

*How to structure sensory stories and how to create your own from favourite texts

*How to source and select appropriate sensory resources

*How to engage children in developing sensory stories

*You will leave with a format and plan to develop Sensory Stories
